Today we review Richmond Plaza Hotel in Cebu City.

We visited this hotel during Sinulog, paying three times the average rate. They had a standard room for around 1500 if you ordered directly. We had a superior room with breakfast that cost about 1200 to 1500 PHP in Agoda. Right now, I see the superior room for 1000 PHP on Agoda without breakfast.

The rooms are relatively clean by Philippine standards and, on average, what we experience from hotels in this price range. There is dust on the fridge and outlets, but the floors are clean.

The room has a fridge. No water boiler and no safe.

TV works well with Discovery and kids' channels. I did forget to check if they have movie channels.

The Internet was weak and slow the few times we could connect. We used our Globe and Smart mobile internet, but those also had pretty slow speeds in this hotel. We could not upload YouTube videos as it would have taken a whole night, but it was fast enough for some lower-quality Netflix via our mobile phones.

A big aircon that was able to keep a decent temperature in the room. Old model but not too noisy.

Big and comfortable bed.

The shower had hot water and good water pressure.

The staff is amiable and provides good service, always with a smile.

To smoke, you must go outside the hotel.

Housekeeping came and cleaned our room without us asking for it. In lower-priced hotels like Richmond Plaza, it is usually only cleaned on request.

Breakfast can be included in the price. If the price has a low difference from without breakfast, it can be OK to order it. However, it is the strangest solution to a breakfast offer we have ever seen. If you are Asian, you get served rice, one egg, one slice of ham or cocktail sausage (very small), and a coffee. If you are a foreigner, you get a bunch of white bread, one egg, jam, butter, a slice of ham or cocktail sausage, and a cup of coffee. I am sure the menu changes for the meat part once in a while, but you do not get to choose. You can not ask for corned beef, sausage, or ham as a choice. Only one option is available per day. No complimentary water or juice. They have small bottles of water for 35 PHP.

Richmond Plaza has a dining area and room service. The prices for their food are a bit high for what you receive, except for the sandwiches. The only problem with them was that they were too sweet.

On the 11th floor, they have a roof deck, which was closed when we were there.

They have outside parking for cars.

Good location within walking distance to Mango and Ayala mall.

The selling point of this hotel is the size of its rooms. Perfect if you have small kids. If you need the Internet or like to dine where you stay, it is not the place for you.
